We don’t always know what our life’s purpose or journey is supposed to be or why we may have some dreams or why we feel overwhelmed. However, one thing is for sure: if we are feeling restless or discontent we are not living from our ability to dream.
We could consider that feelings of discontent and longings for something different, even when we don’t know for sure toward what we are being drawn, are actually calls from the peaceful nature of ourselves — a calling for us to listen to the greater good for ourselves and others.
We will discover our true desire by first noticing discontent.
When you experience discontent, or what feels restless and you’re not sure why, don’t shut it out just because you don’t know what it means. When you shut off your yearnings you become numb and immobilized and unable to create something more interesting.
Bring those inner rumblings to the front of your mind for examination. Turn them around in your mind, look at them from back to front, spin them upside down and then right-side up again. Be curious and stay curious as to what they might be telling you. Is it possible that those rumblings are nudging you toward a more meaningful existence and urging you not to settle for mediocrity?
By opening yourself up to a willingness to examine your discontent, you are allowing your discontent to lead you toward your purpose. Restlessness is an inner guide speaking to us, telling us there is more out there and we are not here to lead limited cramped lives.
We also need to be aware of messages from outside of ourselves that have the potential to lull us to sleep or entice us to shut down our dreams or our discontent. When we can make the distinction between outside voices and our inner knowing, we have access to the path of our own contentment.
What is available when you allow your inner voice to be louder and ring truer than anyone else’s voice?
Many believe that we are not here to settle for less than our purpose, nor should we settle for what anyone else limits us to. Others believe that we are truly limitless and each one of us has the infinite potential for creating whatever it is we want to create. Whatever you currently believe, science is beginning to reveal more of what is possible for humankind.
Even if there’s a part of you that doesn’t grok your infinite potential yet, could you at least consider the possibility that you could have infinite potential? Or that someone you know has infinite potential? Or someone you’ve heard of had infinite potential?
Dreams and desires pull at us, tug at us, speak to us, and will not leave us alone because we are not meant to live cramped lives. If we have a willingness to let these inner frictions rub until they create a spark, we just might find that the friction will ignite the fire of our own purpose.
Once your purpose is ignited, you might be wondering how you will know if this desire is genuine? Here’s a test: Does talking about it give you energy and incite motivation in you, even when the fruition is far off?
Harness your positive energy to partake in the plan that is in store for you. In doing so, you will be honoring your discontent and letting it lead you to your greater good.
